In early October, we held a parent workshop to strengthen our communities understanding of inquiry-based learning and the cycle of inquiry. The parents had an opportunity to participate in several activities. These engagements involved tuning in, finding out, sorting out, going further, making conclusions, and taking action. They even wrote some of their own central ideas that they presented to the group.

In the 2nd week of October, we had our IB category 3 in-house workshop on concept-based learning. Our fantastic workshop leader flew in from Australia and spent 2 days with us. She guided us through activities that strengthened our understanding of the PYP key concepts. We explored the role they play in planning, teaching, and learning. Our teachers gained a great deal of insight during this professional learning experience. Now, we understand that concepts are integral to the inquiry process. Concepts challenge students to engage authentically with significant ideas.

As we move forward as a community, we will continue to engage in professional development opportunities, host parent workshops and learn together. We are all lifelong learners common goal of educating our children to be inquisitive, caring, and knowledgeable.
