TWSDC Debate Competition

debate
The Wells Debate Team, having practiced public speaking, research skills, and debate strategy since the start of the school year, recently competed in the Thailand World Schools Debate Competition (TWSDC) at Panyarat High School. Although we only brought one team–students going above-and-beyond by giving up part of their Lunar New Year break for the opportunity–our students managed to score third-highest going into quarterfinal debates, a remarkable achievement considering this is only their second year of debating. Although we did not make it to the next level of competition, our 9th-grade students each ranked with individual speaker points and marked the first Wells team to proceed past preliminary rounds in several years, losing only to the top two teams that eventually won the tournament–12th-grade students. Congratulations to this improvement, and we look forward to seeing the team’s skills improve even more at coming events!
