While Mother’s Day is held dear in many cultures throughout the world, Mother’s Day in Thailand is a uniquely special day. Portraits of the Queen, the mother of our nation, rise throughout the country. Celebrated on the Queen’s birthday, August 12th, the holiday rings forth with pageantry, emotion and beauty.
On behalf of the Wells International School Community, a Mother’s Day Ceremony was held at On Nut Campus, to celebrate and pay respect on the Queen’s Birthday. Appreciation for Thai language and culture was shown with special words from our Head of School, Mr. Ray, and Thai Director, Ms. Aum, Thai dancing performed by two of our talented high school students, and a video expressing our staff’s appreciation for their own mothers.
The ceremony ended with a beautiful demonstration of students kneeling at their mothers’ feet, expressing their gratitude through the giving of jasmine flowers to their mothers. It was a beautiful ceremony with many heartfelt moments, and some tears of joy shed by our mothers.
