Reading Month
Every year March is reading month at Wells International School. At our Bang Na campus, on March 20th, we invited our families and teachers to be “mystery readers”. The mystery readers arrived at the classrooms in their disguise with their favorite books. They read aloud to the kids. Reading aloud is the single most important activity to promote reading development in early learners. It stimulates cognition, ignites curiosity and develops language skills. At Wells Bang Na, our teachers engage in read alouds daily. We highly encourage our parents to read aloud at home as well.
The idea behind mystery readers is to effectively engage our community of learners and instill a love of literacy. Our parents were also very excited to dress up and read to the kids. Some students immediately guessed who their mystery reader was while others were not so sure. The kids loved the event and the parents were happy to spend quality time with their children at school. The activity continued to promote literacy in a fun and interactive way at our school. We love reading month!
