Wells Seahawks elite tennis players represented the school well at the 59th Annual Thailand King’s Cup held this week at the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand courts in Nonthaburi.
Wells’ veteran, Takumi Watanabe (Class of 2023) survived a crowded field, winning six matches in a row enroute to the championship in the Boys 16s Singles draw, beating #1-seeded Pannawat Suttisomboon, 2-0 (6-2,6-0).
Wells newcomer Teetawat “Fu” Tavachphongsri (Class of 2025) was also very impressive, racking up five wins in the Boys 14s Singles draw, making it all the way to the championship match, settling for 2nd Place after falling 0-2 (6-1,6-2) to Phopthum Sriwong of Chonburi. Fu also made a run to the finals in the Boys 14s Double draw, but once again settled for the 2nd Place trophy, falling to the #1-seeded team, 2-0 (7-6(5), 6-1).
Also playing in the Boys 14s Singles draw were Napat “Patrick” Pattanalertphan (Class of 2027) won two matches to make it to the Round of 16. In doubles action, Patrick and his partner made it all the way to the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions.
Baramee “Micky” Thanawarothon (Class of 2025) also entered the Boys 16s Singles draw, falling in the first round to #12-seeded Isra Rojtammarag of Ratchaburi. And Patham “Kla” Laosakulporn (Class of 2025) entered the Boys 14s Singles draw, falling in the first round to #11-seeded Teerin Prasertsintanah of Bangkok.
