December 5th has become a special day here in Thailand. Not only is it the official date of Father’s Day in Thailand, but it was the date of the anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX. He was born in 1927 and died on October 13, 2016. He was the father of the nation and a symbol of fatherhood.
On December 4th, before the holiday, our school had a ceremony to celebrate fathers and let the students show love and respect their fathers. The students prepared gifts for their fathers in Thai culture classes. During the ceremony, the Grade 11 IB Thai class presented a creative dramatic performance they created, titled “The Love of a Father”.
Grade 5 sang a song titled “KraiNhor” and Pam in Grade 11 performed a musical piece. Grade 1 sang a song “I love my daddy”. A student representative from Grade 11, Paint, gave a speech about fathers and then student representatives presented special gifts to their fathers.
Finally, a father representative gave a heartwarming speech about the joys of being a father. It was a beautiful ceremony to celebrate this important figure in everyone’s life.
