宋干节是泰国的传统新年，于每年的四月十三日来临，共历时三天。节日的第一天被称作“马哈宋干日”，标志着过去一年的结束。节日的第二天被称作“望闹”，节日最后一天也就是四月十五日被称作“望泰龙宋”，标志着新的一年的来临。
在泰国，宋干节无论对于社区、社会、还是宗教都是一个有意义的风俗。对于家庭而言，它是一个合家团聚的日子，一家老小可以在此时传情达意，子女们将带有香味的水泼洒到父母或祖父母的手上来表达敬意并奉上礼物。还会在祖先的灵位前参拜，诉说自己的成就或遭遇。长辈们则对小辈们赠以祝福的话语，希望他们事业顺利，好运长伴。

Songkran Festival is the traditional Thai New Year celebration which starts on April13 of each year and lasts 3 days. The Songkran festival on April13 is Maha Songkran Day or the day to mark the end of the old year, on April14 is Wan Nao which is the day after and April15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok which is when the New Year begins.
The Songkran tradition is recognized as an important custom for the Thai community, society, and religion. The value for family is to provide the opportunity for family members to gather in order to express their express their respect to their elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents and to present them with gifts, including making merit to their ancestors. The elder in return wish the youngers good luck and prosperity.
