The Student Support Services Department offers a variety of guidance activities and individual consultations for parents and students of all grades, from 1 to 12. Different individuals are tasked with each of the different levels within the school, including primary, middle and high school, with university counseling also handled by a dedicated counselor. All Wells International School counselors adhere to the guidelines of the American School Counseling Association, while keeping cultural differences of the Wells student body in mind. Through delivering guidance sessions, group counseling and individual counseling, the department aims to provide support by helping students achieve their goals in the following areas:
- Academic growth
- Social and emotional skills
- University preparation
- Career preparation
At the primary level, the department regularly provides support for issues such as emotional regulation, positive relationships and organizational skills. While maintaining continual support in these areas, at the secondary level, additional emphases are placed on academic motivation, university preparation and career discovery. These counseling programs are implemented as a schoolwide initiative. However, students and family members are encouraged to visit their counselors regularly in order to receive individual support in the following areas, including:
- Anger management
- Bullying
- Career and life planning
- Dealing with grief
- Family issues
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Friendship
- Stress management
- Time management
- Transitioning to a new school or home
- University procedures and planning
Beyond counseling-related tasks, the Student Support Services Department also provides both academic and professional resources for community referrals. Parents can inquire about qualified psychologists, therapists and special educators who run private practices in Bangkok. Workshops, special guest speakers and university representatives are also regularly invited to speak to students at the On Nut campus. To get the most out of the Wells educational experience, students and parents should also contact the counselors to discuss resources for community service activities, International Baccalaureate (IB) CAS projects, volunteer or internship opportunities and available career-related workshops. Finally, to ensure university application success and readiness, secondary school students are highly encouraged to speak to counselors frequently in order to understand the university application process, find the best-matched institution and ultimately create a profile that increases the likelihood of being accepted to a competitive university. Counselors are available to meet parents upon appointment, while students are highly encouraged to drop by during any break or free time.
