Wells animal clubs annually dedicate a special week for animal awareness. Our aim is to raise awareness about animal safety, shelter and most importantly, their coexistence in our environment. This year from February 17th – 21st, S.A.F.E, K9, LOL and PAWS organised this week. Animal Awareness Week featured booths, bake sales, animal shelters, talks and discussions all concerning the importance of coexisting with animals.
Day 1: S.A.F.E Club (Monday, February 17)
SAFE’s stands for ‘Save Animals From Experiments’. Our mission is to spread awareness and to sensitize young adults about animal exploitation. We organised several activities throughout the week, which included two talks concerning vivisection and animal tourism. The first talk was led by Ms. Tammi, an animal activist, who strives to make a positive environment for animals by informing young adults about the aftermath of vivisection. This informative speech made students and teachers better aware of the exploitation of animals. Our second talk was regarding animal tourism. Ms. Brighde and Ms. Wichayapat, animal and environmental activists, led the discussion on animal tourism. This thought-provoking discussion left students with motivation to bring about a positive change, a change to help and care for animals. At the end, we accomplished our motive to provoke new ideas and a sincere effort to learn more about animals that cohabit our planet.
Day 2: K9 Club (Tuesday, February 18)
K9 invited the owner of CHSAthai Stray Animal Shelter and two of their dogs to our campus. The CHSAthai Stray Animal Shelter is an organisation that K9 helps raise funds for. This organisation provides stray dogs with a safe place to live. In order to fund this for this cause, K9 sold hotdogs and smoothies. Previously, K9 had successfully raised ta large amount of funds for this organisation to continue with their mission, which is to provide shelter to dogs. Their presence this week contributed to the success and spirit of Wells Animal Awareness Week and their club at large.
Day 3: Love Ocean Life (LOL) Club (Wednesday, February 19)
LOL, Love Ocean Life, sold delicious cupcakes for a bake sale. Moreover, they had games to raise funds and awareness about ocean life, connecting to SDG Number 14: Life Under Water.
Day 4: PAWS Club (Thursday, February 20)
PAWS Club organised and sold milk tea to raise funds for PAWS Bangkok, a rescue and adoption shelter for stray cats. In addition to that, PAWS also brought in kittens that were from the paws shelter. In buying boba milk/pink tea, buyers learned about PAWS greater mission to help contribute to the stray cats issue here in Thailand.
Day 5: Collaboration of all clubs (Friday, February 21)
On this day all clubs decided to collaborate to achieve our goals together. The sincere efforts of the organizers, Shreyaa, Cristine, Riddhi, Pam, Peter, Ivy, Muskan, Poorvi, Shraddha, Ivy, and Su, helped in the successful completion of the event. Special thanks to all and Ms. Katina, IB Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) & Events Coordinator, who put endless effort in guiding us through the whole process.
