During the summer of 2026, Wells International School partnered with Mahidol University to offer high school students a four-week internship in biomedical engineering. Hosted by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the program introduced students to biosensors, microfluidics, and Micro Total Analysis Systems (MicroTAS).
Throughout the internship, students learned from university professors and gained hands-on experience using advanced laboratory equipment. They practiced testing electrochemical biosensors with micropipettes, designed microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices, and used software such as Silhouette Studio and Fusion 360 to develop and create their designs.
The program encouraged students to move beyond their existing knowledge, work through challenges, and explore the relationship between engineering and medicine. More importantly, it gave them the opportunity to discover their own interests and consider possible pathways for the future.
For several students, the experience confirmed an interest in engineering while helping them recognize that the medical side of biomedical engineering may not be the right fit. This kind of self-discovery is an important part of meaningful learning and career exploration.
