Earth Day 2018

Earth Week 2018

Earth Day 2018

The 22nd of April is celebrated as Earth Day across the world. Wells International School students took up various initiatives throughout the week of April 23-27 to make their contemporaries aware of the current environmental concerns. In continuation with our ‘Every Action Counts’ campaign (See the recent feature in the Compass Education newsletter to learn more), school wide activities were conducted that aimed at promoting a sustainable future.

The Grade 12 ESS students conducted drives to make students realize the significance of trash sorting. They designated the week as “no plastic week”, to counter the menace of disposable plastic. They also held engaging seminars to educate the primary and middle school students with regard to the significance of these actions.

Middle school science students made beautiful crafts using recycled materials. These artifacts were displayed at various locations around school, inspiring all the other students to tap their creative streaks. Also, the students who had the maximum number of posts on social media, related to their eco friendly endeavours, were awarded certificates of appreciation. Their posts can be found on instagram with #everyactioncounts6A, #everyactioncounts6B, #everyactioncounts7A, #everyactioncounts7B. Do take a look!

Many other initiatives were undertaken at different grade levels. Grade 11 Chemistry students designed applications to test ozone levels in the air, Grade 10 Physics students calculated energy in use in classrooms, Grade 10 environmental science students created videos and hosted “awareness booths” during snack and lunch breaks, while sixth and eighth graders participated in the “Gift a plant” activity and continued their ongoing project, Wells World Without Waste.

The idea behind this initiative is not just to  raise awareness, but also to implement these little changes in our everyday lives. These are small yet significant steps towards a cleaner, greener and healthier tomorrow. #EveryActionCounts
